A Bearmindful story

The Cub Who Could Not Sleep

Everyone in the wood is asleep. Everyone except one small bear.

A place to sit down together

Bearmindful books are written to be read out loud by a grown-up to a child. This is the same thing, on the screen the two of you already share — not a phone, and not something to be handed over and left with.

Free, always
No subscription, no account, no paywall. Nothing here costs anything.
Nothing from your child
We collect no information from children at all. The only thing we ever ask for is a grown-up’s email address, and only if you offer it.
No adverts, no tracking
There are no adverts, no trackers and no third-party scripts anywhere on this site.
Made for a bigger screen
Built for the tablet or laptop a family actually shares, so there is room for two people to sit in front of it.

What is behind each one

How the Cub Bear Was Made

Three short films of the cub being drawn, coloured and then rebuilt in 3D. Then an honest list of the apps that did it, with what each one costs — because four of the six are free, and the other two together cost less than two hardbacks.

BearmindfulStory

The whole story in three parts: the beginning to watch, the middle to listen to, and the end to watch. It runs all the way through on one press. There is a Lights Down switch for when it is actually bedtime.

Twelve forest animals and birds, the noise each one makes, and the answer to the question children ask first — a baby hedgehog is a hoglet. Plus screensavers to take away, and an email service for grown-ups.

Still, mostly, a book

The book it came from

The Cub Who Could Not Sleep is a picture book for children aged 3 to 6, and it is meant to be held. This website is the companion to it, not a replacement for it — everything here is free precisely because the book is the thing.
